Aberystwyth University has been recognised for having the best student halls in Wales - and some of the best in the UK.

The university has been ranked as the best-rated student halls in Wales in The Whatuni Student Choice Awards (WUSCAs) of 2024.

Hosted by entertainer Sir Lenny Henry CBE, the awards were celebrated in London on April 24, with the winners determined by more than 35,000 verified student reviews.

The respected awards honour not only nationwide higher education institutions but those in Wales as well, lauding their commitment to providing excellent teaching, facilities, and a superb student experience.

Through the awards, students' collective voice singles out institutions that significantly enhance their educational journey.

In addition to Aberystwyth's recognition, other Welsh universities were also recognised including Cardiff University and Cardiff Metropolitan University.

Additionally, Wrexham University was honoured in several categories.

Simon Emmett, CEO of IDP Connect, the company responsible for compiling the WUSCAs, praised the institutions.

He said: "This year's WUSCAs are a celebration of the extraordinary efforts that institutions put into making student experiences exceptional.

"I'm honoured to work in the higher education sector and delighted to see significant increases in student satisfaction for both domestic and international students, despite some of the negative press coverage we've seen lately."

He continued: "Thank you to all institutions that participated in WUSCAs 2024 for believing in the power and importance of the student voice and huge congratulations to all this year's winners."

In the UK-wide categories, Cardiff University was awarded second place for the Student Union award.

In the Lecturer and Teaching Quality award, Wrexham University was a close second.

However, in Wales, the top performing universities included Cardiff University for Student Union, Aberystwyth University for Halls, and Cardiff Metropolitan University for Facilities.

Meanwhile, Wrexham University shined in the Lecturer and Teaching Quality, Career Prospects, and Student Support categories.

One student from Cardiff University expressed their satisfaction saying, "I think Cardiff is a great place to live and the student union is a great night out and a great place to study."

Nationally, the University of Sheffield was judged to be University of the Year, while the submission award, focusing on Career Coaching and Work Placements, was won by the University of Suffolk.
