A town council in Powys has voiced their support for plans to build an electric vehicle service station in the area.

Town councillors in Llanfair Caereinion voted in favour of expressing support for a proposed electric vehicle service station at their latest meeting on Monday, April 22.

The proposal, submitted to Powys County Council earlier in the month, is for the station to be built on the A458 on land adjacent to Maesteg and will include a new drive thru facility.

While Llanfair town council expressed support for the development, councillors also noted that they felt the 14 car spaces included in the proposed facility were “inadequate”, as well as completing a footpath to provide a connection to the town.

They added: “The council are keen to encourage new development for the benefit of the town.

"We would insist upon completion of the footpath connection to the town, as per existing consent for housing on the site, to be completed within this scheme to ensure access to the site is safe. We also feel he 14 car spaces proposed are inadequate.”

The vote of support with the comments was proposed by Cllr Sam Webster, seconded by Cllr Geraint Peate and was unanimously supported by councillors in attendance.

The plans were submitted to Powys County Council by JPR Andrew, who said: “The proposal is to be situated in close proximity of the development boundary and can utilise the existing access to the A458.

“It was decided to include a drive thru within the application rather than a farm shop as the clients do not want to take any business away from the local town.

“The scheme proposes an electric car parking area to include car and van spaces along with a drive thru where visitors can wait while their electric car are being charged.

“It is located in a way which will allow visitors use of electric charging parking spaces with the option of using a drive thru and waiting area as a workspace or relaxing area while cars are being charged.”
