A pupil from a Powys school managed to raise over £1,000 for cancer support after shaving his head for the cause.

Morgan Lawton, a pupil at Berriew CP School, recently took on the ‘Brave the Shave’ challenge to raise money for Macmillan cancer Support on April 15.

After seeing another Berriew pupil, Emily Powell donate her hair towards making wigs for people suffering from cancer last year, Morgan wanted to do the same.

However, after being told about the strict rules about the length of hair needed for wigs, Morgan decided to take up the ‘Brave the Shave’ challenge instead, growing his hair for over a year specifically for the challenge.

OTHER NEWS:

At the school’s Monday morning assembly, in front of all his school fiends, Morgan had his entire head of hair shaved off after a year of preparation.

Berriew School headteacher Sean Clarke said: “He was amazingly brave and helped raise awareness of such a valuable and worthwhile charity. His friends and staff at the school were all really proud of him.

“I am immensely proud of Morgan as it was an incredibly a brave thing to do in front of his friends. Cancer affects many families across Wales and any support we can give is important. Even children can do their bit.”

A fundraiser for Morgan’s challenge has managed to raise £1,300 so far. A link to the campaign can be found here.
