A POWYS grandmother has proved she is top tier when it comes to making cakes after winning an industry award for the third year in a row.

Gail’s Cake Pantry has been named as one of the best 25 wedding cake professionals in the UK at the Hitched Wedding Awards 2024.

The lady behind the cakes, Gail Jackson, won in the Hitched wedding cakes category in both 2022 and 2023, and is actually celebrating a double triumph – Gail’s Cake Pantry is also a finalist in the Guides for Brides Customer Service Awards 2024.

“I’m honoured to be named as the Powys winner for our wedding cakes. To have won for the third time in a row is unbelievable,” said 58-year-old Gail, who lives in Erwood, near Builth Wells.

“This is solely from our clients who took the time and felt compelled to leave a review.

“I love my job and the satisfaction of seeing it all come together at the end; knowing your work is going to be part of the couple’s forever photos is amazing.

“The other award is from Guides for Brides, I am a finalist. This is also for customer service and reviews.”

Mum-of-two Gail has been baking cakes for 25 years and no two cakes she makes are ever the same.

Every one designed is custom made with the happy couple in mind. She will draw from their inspirations, personality and wedding themes to craft a bespoke cake – and she has even made a 6-hour round trip to deliver one.

OTHER NEWS:

She has created some absolute masterpieces, from happy couples skiing on the slopes, to suitcases, campervans, incorporating beloved pets and even constructing one cake that looked like a Lego block tower.

Gail relocated to Powys – where she used to run a café and tearooms 20 years ago in nearby Llyswen – from Worcestershire in 2020, to be closer to her grandchildren.

The Hitched awards are based on reviews left by married couples in the past year.

The proof is most certainly in the pudding, as Gail’s Cake Pantry received a total of 85 reviews on their Hitched.co.uk online storefront – far more than any of the other 24 winners – and earned a rating of 5/5, determined by the couples who planned their weddings with them.

The sheer amount of positive reviews make Gail and her team the most recommended professional by newlyweds on the platform for wedding cakes.

Guides for Brides, meanwhile, is a popular wedding planning platform that offers couples online advice and recommendations for the best wedding suppliers and venues across the UK.

Their awards are identical to Hitched, in that they are based on the quality and quantity of the reviews left online.

A panel of expert judges from the industry will now independently review the finalists and select the winners. They will be announced at a black tie event next Wednesday, March 27, at Oxford Town Hall.
