A LLANDRINDOD Wells member of St John Ambulance Cymru, who has been described as having saved the town's branch from closure, has won a prestigious award.
Ian Hurll, who is the divisional officer in charge at the Radnorshire branch, was named winner of the Exceptional Leadership Award at the inaugural Mid & West Wales Regional Award Ceremony held on Saturday, September 16.
Meanwhile Lynda ‘Duckie’ Williams, a member of the Newtown division of St John Ambulance Cymru, who can still regularly be seen out supporting members and was the worthy winner of the Regional Life Time Award, with 63 years of service.
Martyn Pryce and Julie Carrod, members of Rhayader St John Ambulance Cymru, picked up the Inspiring Others Award and a Priors Commendation respectively.
Lorraine Jones, from Llanidloes, picked up the Volunteer of the Year Award.
Ian has put in considerable determination and effort to take a division that faced likely closure earlier this year, transforming it from struggling to seeing membership doubled. It is now regularly covering events and has seen community awareness and training increase.
There is a close-knit team in Llandrindod under Ian's leadership and it is thought it will now thrive for years to come.
The Llandrindod division was also highly commended in the Team of the Year Award. Members have pulled together throughout 2023, covering events, attending training and doing more promotion in the community, even taking part in fundraising activities.

Each member brings their own experience and knowledge to the team, from working in the background making sure everything is under control and ready, to regularly delivering training and youth sessions, as well as regularly attending training and duties upskilling and improving clinical skills all the time.
Llandrindod St John Ambulance Cymru meets every Wednesday evening at 7pm at the divisional unit on Quarry Lane, and new members are welcome.
