A MOTORIST’S 200-mile trip to do some green laning in Powys proved costly after he was found to be driving under the influence of drugs.

Kaine David Denyer was banned from the roads for 3 years this week after he admitted driving having smoked cannabis.

The 22-year-old, from West Sussex, had travelled 220 miles from his home to Powys on September 22 last year – a journey that would have taken around 4 hours, 25 minutes.

Landrindod Wells Magistrates’ Court heard on Wednesday, February 15, that police had been called by concerned residents after they had seen a vehicle driving in back lanes close to Builth Wells.

OTHER NEWS:

Police located Denyer, who was driving an Isuzu 4x4 vehicle. He was arrested after providing a positive drug test – landing him a lengthy ban as it is his second offence for the same matter within a 10-year period.

Denyer, appearing at court on Wednesday via videolink on his mobile phone while sat in the passenger seat of a friend’s vehicle, admitted one charge of drug driving.

Prosecutor Stephen Davies said: “Police were made aware of an incident of concern, a vehicle had been seen driving in back lanes.

“They went to the area to find the vehicle and spoke to the defendant. He had been green laning (riding unclassified public highways in cars or on motorbikes), which is a hobby.

“A search of the vehicle was negative but a drug wipe was taken and was positive. He was arrested.”

Mr Davies said Denyer provided a reading of cannabis measuring 7 micrograms in his blood – the legal limit is 2 micrograms.

County Times:

He said Denyer had a relevant previous conviction; he was disqualified in 2017 when he was a youth for drug driving.

Denyer, of Swallows Lane, Dial Post, near Horsham, said little, other than to confirm he was currently unemployed, looking for work and living with his parents.

Magistrates banned him from driving for 3 years. They also fined him £120 and ordered him to pay £85 costs and a £48 surcharge.
