A BELOVED pub is reopening this weekend having been closed for over a year.

The Barley Mow, an 18th century pub in Builth Wells, has announced it is reopening this Friday, February 17, at 4pm.

The West Street pub is one of the oldest in town, but has been open and closed multiple times and refurbished several times over the last two decades.

It closed most recently at the heigh of lockdown, officially calling time in December 2021. The pub teased punters on its new Barley Mow Builth Facebook page by posting a new logo on February 7.

And there has been a lot of activity at the popular local boozer this week, with an announcement going out on social media on Thursday that the pub is set to open the doors once more.

County Times:

“Can you spare a Mow? We're re-opening this weekend. Friday 17th February 4pm,” read a post on the Barley Mow Builth Facebook page, via the Builth Wells Advertising page.

“You may have already heard that the things are happening down at the Barley Mow.

"We have now finished the first part of our renovations. There is still plenty to do, but it's now time to share what we've been doing, with you all.

“We've received fantastic support and interest from the community. And we look forward to letting you through the doors from 4pm this Friday.

“The bars are stocked and the Barley Mow Builth team look forward to greeting you all.”

With businesses around pubs seemingly closing by the dozen in recent months due to the cost-of-living crisis - including hoards of pubs - the news comes as a welcome boost to both Builth and the hospitality sector.
