GUILSFIELD and Llandrinio Cricket Club have completed a league double.

The villagers secured second place in division four of the Mansfield Sports Group Shropshire League to seal promotion to the third division.

Meanwhile the club's second string stormed to title glory in division eight in their first season of existence.

Club chairman David Williams praised the players and also thanked supporters and sponsors for their role in the club's ongoing success, highlighting the fact the club almost folded a decade ago.

However, since the village club has gone from strength to strength and can now look forward to local derbies against Welshpool and Montgomery in the third division.

The proud club chairman was relishing the future as the ambitious club continued to make strides on an off the pitch.

He said: "It’s been another incredible season for the club as a whole. 
"Dave Lewis has done a magnificent job clinching our third promotion in four seasons and Gary Griffiths can be proud of his efforts in captaining the second team to the title in their first season in division eight. 

"The club as a whole is on the up though, off the pitch we have an excellent ground now thanks to the hard work of Dave and his helpers, while the introduction of kids cricket has injected some welcome youthful energy into the club which we hope to build on next year. 

"We have used over 50 players this season so our thanks to each and every one of them for playing their part in the success of the club."
