NEWTOWN Cricket Club’s future looks bright after the Powys club swept the board in the summer’s Shropshire junior tournaments.

Newtown won the Shropshire U18s Hundred Tournament in under their Hundred team name of Dreigiau Drenewydd 

Newtown thrashed Wolverhampton by nine wickets in the final with Cai Van Lill (3-15), Finlay Bellamore (3-4), and Evan Smout (2-5) dominant and eased to victory over Codsall to secure the first ever U18s Hundred title.

Newtown also won the Dave Vart Memorial U15s Finals Day held at Oswestry CC with Newport put to the sword with Evan Smout (3-14) starring while Griff Davies (50no) top scored.

Davies also struck a half century as Newtown beat Whitchurch in the final with Cai Van Lill and  wicket keeper Rhys Jones starring as Town edged a slender three run win.

Riley Bellamore (3-21) claimed his 40th wicket of the season at 14 years old with Dan Cadwallader and skipper Smout in support.

A club spokesman said: “Amazing achievement for this bunch of players, this is the third time they have reached the U15s Finals Day and second year running they have won overall. An unbelievable group of players,

“A brilliant game and thanks to Shropshire and Oswestry CC for hosting. Griff Davies was awarded Player of the Day with his two match changing 50’s.

Newtown U11s completed the clean sweep with victory in their league.
