MATTHEW Higgins ended the Rotax Max European Karting Championship at the Paul Fletcher International kart circuit in Lincolnshire with a podium place last weekend.

The youngster from Trefeglwys started the weekend in the best way possible by putting it on pole position out of the best drivers in Europe.

Higgins then continued with this momentum and stayed within the top three in his races that followed, including a race win.

After some tough battles with team mates in the pre-final, he started the final third when the weather took a drastic turn and meant he had to completely adapt his driving style to suit the conditions.

Higgins raced hard and finished the weekend's final in second place.

Higgins finishes this years RMET ranked fourth in the whole of Europe, narrowly missing out on third by just a few points.

Alongside his karting, Higgins has been testing in a McLaren GT3 car as he prepares to take the next step in his career next season to race in sports cars in a televised championship.
