TWO youths have been arrested following a spree of vandalism in a Powys town that caused hundreds of pounds of damage.

Several incidents of criminal damage occurred in Brecon in the early hours of Thursday morning (June 17), with two people arrested and currently in custody awaiting interview.

Police said hanging baskets and planters were discovered damaged when officers were on patrol in Brecon in the early hours of Thursday, which led to the identification of two suspects.

Breconshire Police tweeted: “Following on from several incidents of criminal damage, which occurred primarily in Brecon High Street during the early hours of the morning, two individuals have been arrested and are currently awaiting interview.”

In a statement, Dyfed Powys Police said: “During the early hours of Thursday officers have come across damage to a number of items in Brecon town centre, including hanging baskets and planters, while on patrol. 

“Enquiries have been made which have resulted in the identification of two suspects, with two youths arrested on suspicion of criminal damage.

“Enquiries have continued during the day with local business owners and Brecon Town Council. 

The cost of the damage to street furniture is in the range of several hundreds of pounds.”
