A BRIDGE in need or repair in the scenic Elan Valley will be closed for three months from November, so that the work can be carried out.

The Bailey Bridge, connecting Elan Village to the rest of Elan Valley network of reservoirs and dams, will be shut from November 17 to January 17 next year.

The bridge is located outside the Elan Valley Visitor Centre and was put in place to replace the condemned former bridge, which is believed to have originally been built in 1904.

Rhayader county councillor Angela Davies revealed the closure news on Wednesday, September 9, saying the closure will affect the U1549 road connecting to the tiny Elan Village.

She said the road closure will be in force for 24 hours a day, while the Elan Valley Trust carries out repairs.

Access and emergency vehicle access will be via a diversion to the road by the Riverside Lodge B&B.
