Welshpool town centre has been left closed this morning, and a police cordon and forensics tent put in place, after a serious incident in the early hours of the morning.
Traffic is being diverted and officers are on the scene in Church Street after the incident, which reportedly occurred at about 3am.
Eyewitness reports suggest a police helicopter was circling the town as the incident unfolded.
One person in the town this morning, who did not wish to be identified, said: "There’s probably about four or five police vehicles and Church Street is closed form the Traffic lights at The Cross to St Mary’s Church junction.

"It happened about 3 o’clock this morning apparently. There’s a forensics tent up right outside the Cornstore, the restaurant.

"I think traffic in the town centre is moving okay but that bit of road where the barber’s the the restaurant are is closed and they’re diverting traffic away.
"I don’t know exactly what’s happening but it’s pretty worrying – you don’t expect something like this in Welshpool town centre. There might have been a police helicopter out as well."
Police have said the road looks likely to remain closed for the rest of today while police assess the scene.
Police have yet to comment, but put out a post last night which read: "(Church Street) is currently closed due to an emergency incident.
"Please avoid the area and find an alternative route for your journey."
