A NEWTOWN pub has announced it is closing at the beginning of June – so that a £170,000 refurbishment scheme can begin.
The Black Boy pub, on Broad Street, says it plans to be closed for a little over a week, as it is undergoing a “complete kitchen upgrade”.
It is thought the bar refurbishment project is costing in the region of £170,000.
The work will start on Monday, June 1, and it is estimated that it will continue for nine days. The pub is set to reopen again on Wednesday, June 10, at 8am.

As well as redecoration and new kitchen flooring, new kitchen appliances and equipment will also be part of the refurb, which is also set to include a new walk-in fridge and freezer, as well as cooking equipment, which are all being installed.
The Broad Street boozer, which is Grade II-listed and dates back to the 17th century, underwent an extensive refurbishment when it reopened as a Wetherspoons in May 2014, becoming the first Wetherspoons pub in Montgomeryshire, and only the second in Powys.
