TESCO in Llandrindod Wells was the venue for a lucky dip and raffle to raise funds for local veterans as part of the celebrations for Armed Forces Day last weekend.
The event was organised by veterans David Rawsthorne and Richard Vellacott, the latter being the community champion at Tesco, and took place on Saturday, June 29.
“At Tesco we held a lucky dip/raffle with donated items from local businesses and Tesco also donated a few items as well, for Armed Forces Day,” said Richard.
“The funds raised today will be used for our local Armed Forces veterans, who meet every Sunday for a coffee morning at the Royal British Legion in Llandrindod, to treat themselves to a cooked breakfast meeting at a local cafe, hotel or restaurant.

“It is a way for us to be able to thank them for their service and for putting their lives on the line for ours.”
Richard said donations were made by local businesses, including the Fish Bar, Knillco Hardware store, Chris Taxi and Trudy Davies of Woosnam and Davies Newsagents, in Llanidloes.
“Thank you so much David Rawsthorne for your hard work and displaying some of your kit and Andrew Rutherford for moral support,” added Richard.
“Most importantly, a big thank you to our customers for your donations.”
