PUPILS from a Powys secondary school have flourished in a national writing competition.

This year’s theme for Rotary UK’s annual Young Writers competition was an inspiring word - rebuilding.

The local heats were organised by Builth Wells Rotary Club and Ysgol Calon Cymru’s head of English, Anwen Nicholls.

This title really motivated the students into creating some wonderful entries of a particularly high standard. The three judges had a hard time making their decision.

Winning the senior section was Seren Jones with Lowri Bayliss a close second.

The intermediate section was won by Elijah Lloyd with Zac Douel coming second.

Seren and Elijah’s entries went on to compete in the regional finals and the Rotary club was delighted to discover that Seren came second in the regional competition and Elijah has been declared the intermediate regional winner and will now be entered into the national finals.
