A POWYS man has avoided an immediate return to jail after admitting he failed to comply with the terms of release from prison.
Simon Drewry, 45, appeared at Llandrindod Wells Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, March 27, where he had previously admitted failing to comply with the requirements of post-custodial supervision.
Drewry, of Temple Drive, Llandrindod, failed to attend appointments with probation in August and November last year, and this February. It was said he also failed to keep in touch with his supervising officer.
After admitting the breach two weeks ago, a probation officer had recommended Drewry be sent back to prison, but the officer had since recommended a fine.

Geraint Parry, representing Drewry, said: “The defendant acknowledges this is a serious matter.
“What reduces its seriousness is he was visiting his GP. He suffers from severe migraines and is on medication. He did not explain this.
“I have explained to him that he must tell probation about any missed appointments. He is extremely remorseful. He is disappointed with himself he did not contact probation.
“He says he feels that contact with probation is beneficial and helping him in building a better life.”
Magistrates fined Drewry £120.
