MOTORISTS in Powys have been left confused for the last week by a road closure that warns of an entirely different road in the county being shut.

Essential carriageway resurfacing is taking place overnight on the A483 between Builth Wells and Llandrindod Wells.

However, many motorists have been caught out because signs warn drivers that it is the A438 that is closed, not the actual A483 road that connects the two towns.

The resurfacing work is due to be completed on Saturday, March 9 (tomorrow), having begun on

Thursday, February 29, as advertised by Traffic Wales, operated by the Welsh Government.

“Day time working hours will be 7.30am to 6.30pm, with the road remaining open,” said Traffic Wales.

“There are night road closures planned from February 29 until March 9 between 7pm-7am.”

Signs have flummoxed motorists, who are told the road is closed at Disserth Mill, which is a location on the A483, closer to Builth.

But they are informed that the ‘A438 is closed at Disserth Mill’, when in fact the A438 runs through an entirely different part of Powys – between Hay-on-Wye and Brecon.

A Welsh Government spokesperson said it had spoken to the Trunk Road Agents, who are aware of the matter.

“We are aware of a typo on the road sign for the resurfacing works which should read A483 and are working to rectify this as this soon possible,” said the spokesperson.
