A POWYS pub that reopened on New Year’s Day is closed once more… but only temporarily.

The Mid Wales Inn was back open to locals in Pantydwr on January 1, but has faced heating and other building-related issues since.

The pub, situated in the hillside community of Pantydwr, above Rhayader, closed initially in February 2023, with thirsty locals instead enjoying a jar at the local village community hall which opened up as a pop-up bar.

OTHER NEWS:

The pub’s new owners, Happy and Suki Singh, who also run the Elan Hotel in the centre of Rhayader, insist problems affecting ‘The Mid’, as the pub is affectionately known, this time around are temporary, and they will be back open soon.

“Hello everyone hope all is well, just to notify everyone the Mid Wales Inn will be temporarily closed, until we can sort out the heating and other related issues with in the building,” read a post on the Mid Wales Inn Facebook page on February 12.

“Fingers crossed, shouldn't take too long”

The pub had initially experienced teething problems after the grand reopening on January 13. A post on that day read: “Sorry about the closure inconvenience all, we having few staffing and building issues at this moment in time, will put up a notice soon as we are open more but as of now it's just Friday and Saturday nights.”

The Pub at the Hall, Pant-y-dwr, had kept the village pub vibe alive, not to mention bringing the community together, during the initial 10 months the Mid Wales Inn was closed, opening at Pantydwr Community Hall in October 2023.

The hall even still hosted the pub’s dominoes and pool teams.

“A couple of locals decided to run a little bar in our wonderful community centre while the pub is closed,” said Sam Lipscomb, who had been one of the people running the pop-up pub, as well as being the hall’s booking secretary, in December.

“This is helping support local teams like dominoes and pool, who would normally play from the Mid Wales Inn. It is also hoping to raise much-needed funds as any profit made will be donated to the hall.”
