The Girlguiding Cymru headquarters in Powys has had its price slashed by £750,000 as it struggles to find a buyer.

Broneirion mansion in Llandinam was listed on the open market for the first time over a year ago after the organisation said it had become a “financial burden”.

The 20-bedroom Italianate-style mansion was placed on the market for £3 million by Girlguiding Cymru in October 2022 but has since failed to find a buyer and has now had its price reduced to £2,250,000.

The mansion became the Welsh Training Centre for the Girlguiding Association in 1946 when it was opened by Olave Baden-Powell, World Chief Guide and the wife of Robert Baden-Powell, the founder of Scouting and co-founder of Girl Guides.

Girlguiding Cymru has owned the 20-bedroom mansion since the early 1990s following a fundraising campaign to buy the property but has struggled to pay for its upkeep in recent times.

Bev Martin, Chief Commissioner on behalf of Girlguiding Cymru Board of Trustees, had previously said: “The Board of Trustees have decided that the financial burden on Girlguiding Cymru of owning, maintaining, and supporting Broneirion, which has been unsustainable for many years have had no alternative than to make the decision to market Broneirion for sale.”

Estate Agents Fine and Country, who are handling the sale said the property was a “once in a lifetime opportunity”.

They said: “When visiting Broneirion, the history feels tangible and the decision to sell has been very difficult to come to but is entirely genuine and now represents a once in a lifetime opportunity to purchase this outstanding, individual, highly renowned country home and to take it into the next chapter of its extraordinary history.”

They added that the property comes with a wealth of feature including “multiple reception rooms including Drawing Room, Dining Room and Billiard Room, as well as extensive kitchen facilities, bathrooms and cellars.

“Character and features are in abundance both internally and externally, from sculpted stonework, friezes, lead work and stained glass, to an array of fireplaces, panelling, mouldings, sash windows and floorboards.

“The associated Coach House sits to the South of the main building and has a covered courtyard with impressive glazed roof and converted rooms over two storeys offering offices, conference room, kitchens, storage and workshop as well as bedroom and bathroom facilities.”
