A popular Powys destination for residential school trips is going up for auction.

River Wye Activity Centre based at Glasbury House in Glasbury on Wye has been a centre for outdoor education for over 50 years and is now set to go up for auction next week (January 30).

The property which includes a house, a bunkhouse, a campsite, six acres of grounds and the Paddlers Rest Café on the banks river Wye.

Paul Fosh Auctions who are handling the sale said the main house is “a well-presented detached, Grade II listed period property built in the 18th century.”

“The main building is comprised of commercial kitchens, dining room, lounge, games room, large toilet and shower block on the ground floor as well as toilets and sinks upstairs next to the bedrooms. The house is approached via a fine sweeping driveway, with a walled garden and with most attractive, mature grounds.”

The bunkhouse which was created in the 1970s sleeps up to 27 guests. Converted from a former coach house and stables the building boasts “a commercial kitchen, a washroom containing five shower cubicles with two WC's, and a drying room to the ground floor”.

“The first floor is comprised of five bunkhouse style rooms and bathroom. In 2001, a single storey extension was built in sympathy with the original coach house. The Paddlers Rest Cafe is a also part of the sale and is “popular with booked guests it is also frequented by the local community and kayakers”.

Auctioneers Paul Fosh said: “The site is currently being used as an education centre, providing accommodation and outdoor activities to school aged children.

"Additionally, there is a cafe and camping grounds on the site. Subject to the relevant consents, this property may be suitable but is not limited to use as residential accommodation, a wedding venue or further development."

The site will be up for sale as lot 73 on an online auction from January 30 to Feb 1.

The guide price for the site is £825,000 and “the vendor will consider offers” with “an opportunity to purchase various aspects of the site”.
