A Powys pub has been named by the Times as having one of the best Sunday lunches in the country.

The Felin Fach Griffin in Brecon was named by the Times as one of the seven best pubs in the UK to grab a Sunday lunch.

The Felin Fach Griffin describes itself as “a dining pub with rooms nestling near the book town of Hay-on-Wye between The Black Mountains and The Brecon Beacons” and work to “support our local community, source our produce with sustainability in mind, and set our prices for our regular customers, not the incoming tourists.”

The pub prides itself on its high standards and head chef Gwenann Davies joined the team earlier this year after serving in a senior role in the Tom Kerridge group and “a meteoric career that started at the fabulous Gleneagles Hotel”.

The highly regarded pub was praised by reviewers for “a barnstormer of a Sunday lunch”. Praise was heaped on the “unusual variations” of Sunday lunch the chef prepares including “confit duck leg or maple-glazed celeriac”.

They also praised the atmosphere of the pub and said that “despite the high-quality produce, the pub feels refreshingly unpretentious” and said the décor was homely with “deep, lived-in leather sofas to lounge in, old books to browse and a pretty garden for when the sun shines.”

The pub which also doubles as a bed and breakfast was also praised for its “homely vibe” including its checked bedspreads, mismatched furniture and “stonking views of the Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) peaks”.

Felin Fach Griffin is run by Eatdrinksleep, the company that Charles Inkin set up in 2000 to bring the newly refurbished pub to life.

They add: “The name sums up what we're about.  Our modern version of a traditional inn feeds and waters the traveller before affording them the best night’s sleep they remember."
