A PUBLIC meeting will be held next week to discuss the future of the East Radnorshire Day Centre, which has been unable to reopen since the pandemic due to funding issues.

Knighton Town Council has welcomed news of a consultation over the centre, which forms a wider review from Powys County Council (PCC) for all day services in Powys. The local authority is rolling out a broad consultation under the ‘Day Opportunities in Powys’ umbrella, with two events being held next Thursday, November 30.

There will be one meeting at the centre, in Presteigne, from 1.30-2.30pm, and another in the evening, from 6-7pm, at John Beddoes School, Presteigne, on Thursday, November 30.

OTHER NEWS:

There is also a questionnaire that local residents in Presteigne and Knighton can fill out.

“As many of you will be aware the East Radnorshire Day Centre was closed due to Covid in March 2020 and since then we have been unable to agree the relevant funding with Powys County Council to re-open,” said Knighton Town Council on its Facebook page.

“There is a questionnaire to complete online (paper copies can be provided if necessary) and there are public meetings being held.

“This is our opportunity to let Powys County Council know what our community wants and the future of the day centre will rely on the results of this consultation.

“Therefore, we cannot stress enough how important it is to complete this questionnaire and attend the public meeting. Please do come along and support this valuable service.”

This survey forms part of a wide scale engagement exercise of the day opportunities available within Powys for adults with learning disabilities, physical disabilities, and/or mental health difficulties and older people who draw on care and support.

Day opportunities provide individuals with the chance to enhance their wellbeing through taking part in various activities, developing relationships and gaining new skills. They enable people to become more independent and live fulfilling lives. Day opportunities also provide support to carers, by providing respite so that they can pursue interests outside their caring role.

The closing date for survey responses is Monday, December 11.

Besides various public meetings throughout Powys over the next few weeks, there will also be two online events people can join, on Tuesday and Thursday, December 5 and 7.
