A yellow weather warning has been issued in Powys as the incoming Storm Ciarán is set hit the UK later this week.

The Met office has issued a yellow weather warning for prolonged heavy wind and rain from Wednesday evening (November 1) until the end of Thursday.

The warning for heavy rain has been issued for the south of the county with the warning being issued as far north as Rhayader and Presteigne. 

Storm Ciarán is expected to bring disruption coming less than a fortnight after Storm Babet brought chaos to the north of county.

According to the Met Office, Storm Ciarán will likely lead to flooding in the area they are warning "fast flowing or deep floodwater is possible, causing a danger to life".

The Met Office also warned that "some communities may be cut off by flooded roads" and that "homes and businesses could be flooded, causing damage to some buildings".

Travel could also be disrupted later in the week with possible "delays or cancellations to train and bus services".

The Met office has also warned that there could be a risk of high winds in the southern strip of Powys warning that there could be "very strong and potentially damaging winds".

This warning has been issued for the very south of Powys with residents south of Brecon being warned of small chances that "damage to buildings and homes could occur, with roofs blown off and power lines brought down" and "flying debris will result in a danger to life". 

They have also said the high winds could possibly lead to travel disruption and that "roads, bridges and railway lines could close, with delays and cancellations to bus, train, ferry services and flights".

Winds from Storm Ciarán are expected to be very high across the south coast of the UK with speeds of up to 80mph being expected with speeds of 50 to 60 mph expected further inland.
