A new business is set to open in Welshpool, filling a space that was left empty when the previous business closed earlier this year.

The Witch of the Willows, a handmade craft shop, is scheduled to open in Welshpool on October 28.

The shop is located on Broad Street, in the retail space previously occupied by gift shop Becky’s Desirables, which closed earlier this year, citing health issues for the owner and a lack of footfall compared to their Shrewsbury premises.

Despite initial fears that the closure would create another empty shop in Welshpool, the space has been filled by Jennifer and Andrew Coult, who sell magic and spiritual themed crafts as well as tarot card readings and consultations.

Jennifer Coult said: “It’s been quite a tough process to get everything ready, but I’m glad to say we’ve done it.

“I’ve always wanted a base somewhere, as we have been operating as an online business for a while but still wanted a physical space to craft from.

“It’s been a tough journey but we’ve just kept going and done what we can. We only saw the space was available a few weeks ago and decided to go for it. It’s been a very quick turnaround.

“We’ve had plenty of help moving in from friends, who also donated some furniture to help fill the shop out.

“We’ve also had fantastic support from the community around us. As we were finishing painting the shop over the past few days there have been people knocking on the door to ask when we are open or what we do. It’s all been really positive and welcoming.

“I would love the shop to be a positive haven in the town, as well as fitting in with the high street. It could serve as a place for people to drop in and experience something new.”
