WALES’ favourite weatherman came to Powys on Friday and even though he couldn’t coax the sunshine to join him, he still lit up faces of staff at a local restaurant.

Meteorologist and BBC weatherman Derek Brockway stopped by the Lakeside Café on Friday and even though it’s been a miserable day of rain and flooding, he did bring a ray of sunshine with him, in BBC colleague and Llandrindod native Sue Charles.

“We were privileged to have a visit today from our No1 TV presenter and weatherman walking, Derek Brockway, accompanied by our local legend, Sue Charles, Welsh TV presenter,” said Lakeside Cafe & Catering on their Facebook page.

“And the mayor of Llandrindod, Cllr Marcia Morgan. Pity Derek couldn't bring some sunshine with him but he took time out to have a photo with our hardworking staff which brought huge smiles all round.”

Llandrindod Wells Town Council announced earlier this week that was due to make a stop in Powys this week – adding that there would be a “very special announcement” to make, though no further information has been revealed as yet.

Derek has become a beloved Welsh icon and his series Weatherman Walking is now in its 13th season, even spawning a book in 2021.

In the latest series he took a stroll in the Elan Valley during the eighth and final episode of series 13, which was shown in the summer and is still available on BBC iPlayer.
