LLANDRINDOD Wells Town Council has announced the death of former mayor and beloved public figure Sheila Richards.

Mrs Richards was a long-serving town councillor and popular figure who had immersed herself in various community activities throughout her life.

She had been heavily involved with the running of the spa town’s iconic Victorian Festival over the years, as well as being an active member of Tremont WI. She was also a big supporter of the arts, including the Albert Hall theatre and she also donated, supported and gave her time to many local organisation.

“It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of former mayor and long-term town councillor Sheila Richards,” Llandrindod Wells Town Council said in a tribute to Mrs Richards on their Facebook page on Thursday.

“Sheila served as a member of the town council for many years and had the honour of being mayor in 2001/2. She was an extremely active member of the town council and also within many local groups and activities.

“She was long-term administrator to the Victorian Festival and an active member of Tremont WI. Her love for the arts was evident with her support of the drama festival, Albert Hall and Grand Pavilion.

“She also privately supported many local groups with her donations, support and time.

“Sheila also actively supported her husband, the late Ken Richards, while he was mayor of Llandrindod Wells on three occasions.

“Once we have received details of her funeral, which will be in Caerphilly, we will provide an update.”
