DESPITE a tricky pumpkin growing season, a Radnorshire farm is once again opening up its fields for picking this year, coinciding with Hallowe’en.

Powells Farm Wales is promising “more pumpkin-themed fun than ever before” and is now open every weekend up until hair-raising holiday, for all your pumpkin picking needs.

A spokesperson said: “Are you ready to make a ‘wizardly wand’ and ‘fangtastic potion’ this Hallowe’en?

“Or you may prefer to make a ‘spooky lantern’ to visit the pumpkin patch with on the edge of night?

“Or perhaps a ‘mini farm Powell VIP’ experience would be more your thing, where you get to feed the animals and help out with other farm chores. These are some of the bookable workshop activities available at Powells farm Wales this half term.”

The Powell family farm is situated just off the A44 passing through Powys, near Llanfihangel-nant-Melan.

The popular venue being open this October will be welcomed by Powys residents, especially as pumpkin picking at another popular Powys farm is sadly not going ahead this year after a difficult growing season.

Farmer Gerwyn Vaughan said his normally plentiful crop of around 20,000 pumpkins at Porth Farm, Caersws, has fallen victim to this summer's mixed weather.

Pumpkins need lots of rain and a long, hot growing season, but they are tender so must be protected from frost and cold.

Powells Farm will also have their usual ‘pick your own pumpkin patch’ where you choose your own special pumpkins to take home, followed by a visit to the ‘spooky barn’, along with lots of fun and games on the way.

“Things have got even creepier this year with the addition of ‘coffin corner’ for your unique Hallowe’en photo opportunity,” they added.

“During your visit you will be able to purchase a range of hot amd cold drinks and homemade spooky snacks.
