A MENTAL health charity has benefitted from thousands of pounds in donations after a variety of Powys people went the extra mile to raise funds and awareness.

Last month, Mid and North Powys Mind received a share of £1,346 raised by Llandrindod Wells runners Fred Morris and Ffion Price, who ran 57 miles from Hereford to Penybont, via Hay-on-Wye, Evenjobb and the Radnor Forest, in August.

Meanwhile, Ethan Layton, from Knighton, took part in the Battle of the Borders marathon in September and raised a whopping £1,800.

Fred and Ffion shared the funds they raised between Mid and North Powys Mind (split between the following services; 1 to 1 support, counselling and Mum’s Matter Perinatal support) and the Wales Air Ambulance.

Mum’s Matter facilitator Tracy Lewis was presented with a cheque for £1,346 at the Seven Arms Hotel in Penybont.

“Fred decided he needed a challenge and I thought it was a great way to raise awareness and funds for two of my favourite charities,” said Ffion.

“The Welsh Air Ambulance because living in an incredibly rural area the WAA has proven itself vital time and time again, recently saving a close friend’s life, and Mid and North Powys Mind after personally being affected by mental health struggles myself, this charity works hard to help those in need get back on track.”

A spokesperson for the Llandrindod-based charity said: “Thank you so much for choosing Mid and North Powys Mind as one of your charities. We are so grateful to you and to everyone who donated.”
