WORK will finally begin on a brand new play park in Montgomery next month.

The Friends of Montgomery Play Park and Montgomery Town Council confirmed the news the long wait for the new facility is now almost over with the installation to begin in mid-October.

A recent donation means that a much-desired zip wire can be added to the equipment list.

The team and town are so very grateful to this anonymous benefactor for their generosity towards this project and also to all of those who have supported the project along the way, and continue to do so - whether it’s through grants, donations, serving cakes, designing maps, creating scarecrows or all manner of other things.

OTHER NEWS:

Alex Boyd Jones, a member of the Friends of Montgomery Play Park, said: "It has taken a lot of effort by a number of people to get to this stage.

"Like many voluntary organisations, we have been up against a number of challenges in recent years. Working alongside Montgomery Town Council, we have been committed throughout to deliver proper play facilities in the town, believing them to be crucial for the wellbeing of families that live here.

"It’s an amazing feeling to finally be able to realise what we set out to do almost four years ago."

County Times:

The new park will see a basket swing, toddler swings and swings for older children; a multi-purpose activity frame for climbing and balancing; and a 20 metre zip wire - all using natural materials as much as possible as was desired in the original planning.

There will also be a new accessible entrance and a path that will lead into the park.

A roundabout from the existing play park will be relocated and the group are working towards bringing a new dragon (made from donated tyres) into the mix in due course - as well as a mud kitchen, sound pieces, benches and bins.

The Friends will still be fundraising for further items.

The next fundraiser is the annual Scarecrow Competition and Trail around Montgomery, taking place from Saturday, October 28th to November 4th with a prize-giving event on Sunday, November 5th.
