A weather warning for thunderstorms and flooding in the parts of Powys this weekend.

The Met office have issued a yellow weather warning for the southern half of the county tomorrow (September 17), with thunderstorms and localised flooding expected in some areas.

In a statement online the Met Office said: "Heavy showers and thunderstorms may lead to some localised flooding and disruption to travel."

The severe weather is expected to reach as far north as Rhayader and the weather front is expected to last from around 7am to 6pm.

The Met office warned that "there is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds" and that "there is a small chance of fast flowing or deep floodwater causing danger to life."

They added there could be a issues surrounding travel as "where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to train and bus services" and that "spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures."

"There is a small chance that some communities become cut off by flooded roads."

The Met office added that the storms could lead to issues with electricity and said: "There is a slight chance that power cuts could occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be lost."
