I am in receipt of the Welsh Government’s “Get Ready for 20mph. The public survey to establish attitudes to 20 mph is quite revealing.

Of the 2.3 million registered voters in Wales only 1,000 were selected to give their views on a number of pre selected questions. That leaves 2.2 million of us that were not asked.

A total of 63%, or 630 of those questioned, supported the introduction of a lower speed limit, mainly because they felt less safe and that there were many instances of speeding cars.

OTHER NEWS:

The problem of cars exceeding the 30 mph speed limit has proved impossible to enforce by the Police no doubt because of lack of investment in the Force or more pressing matters like catching criminals.

Unless more resources are forthcoming there is zero possibility that the new restriction can be enforced. A complete waste of taxpayers’ money. What next, other reductions of higher speed limits?

County Times:

I suggest of more concern to all of us is the way that this survey has been carried out using a statistical model. How is it that 630 people speak for the 2.3 million electorate? We are all different our unique DNA proves it. Is it not better to put it to a referendum?

If this is how future decisions are going to be made will the next Welsh Government elections be based on only 1000 selected voters to save the cost of going to the Country?

After all the current Government represents less than 20% of the Welsh Electorate. What price democracy?
