A Guilsfield pub has wrapped up on its last weekend as the current owners are stepping away from the business.

The current management of The King’s Head, Guilsfield, called last orders on August 28 as they finished their last day as managers of the village pub.

Louise and Adam Evans first moved in as the new managers of The King’s Head in 2020, guiding the business through a turbulent year with the Covid-19 Pandemic in full swing, navigating various lockdowns and welcoming customers back after a lengthy hiatus.

Now, three years later, the couple are stepping away from the business to spend more time with their family and in response to the rising costs of running a pub.

Louise Evans said: “We’ve mainly stepped away for personal reasons, as we missed getting time with our family. Running a pub is a 24/7 job.

“But the rise in running costs have also added to it, as it’s a demanding role that requires a lot of work with diminishing returns. It started to become a little overwhelming.

“In the three years we have been here we’ve made some great friends, all of whom were sad to see us leave but very understanding.”

New tenants will be arriving to take over management of the pub, but Louise and Adam closed out their tenure as pub managers with their final bank holiday weekend, which featured a live music performance by local band 5Live.

Looking back on their time running The King’s Head, they had many highlights and memories of their experiences managing the business.

Louise added: “We loved running a Christmas market, as well as our Tuesday social club, a chance for some of our elderly customers to meet. We started the club just after lockdown and cultivated about 25 regular group members.

“It was hard starting out during Covid, we went through multiple lockdowns and shutdowns, we put safety measures in place to make it safe for people to return to the pub and brought it back.

“We’re very proud of what we achieved and the space we’ve carved out in the community. I like to think we did a good job while we were here.”
