A caravan park in Powys has lent its backing to one of its frequent visitors as he joins the line-up for the 2023 season of Strictly Come Dancing.

Neuadd Bridge Caravan Park is backing British Paralympian Jody Cundy for the title, as it was announced that the gold medal-winning athlete would be competing in the upcoming series of the BBC dancing competition.

The riverside holiday park located near Llanfair Caereinion said on social media that as the son-in-law of local residents, the cyclist and former swimmer has visited Neuadd Bridge “many times”.

"Jody has visited the park many times," the park said.

"Can everyone please get behind and support Jody throughout this journey."

Cundy has represented Great Britain at seven Summer Paralympics winning eight Gold, one Silver and three Bronze medals across swimming and cycling events.

Having represented Great Britain at three Paralympic Games between 1996 and 2004, Mr Cundy switched to cycling and represented Great Britain at the Paralympic Games in Beijing in 2008, becoming one of a handful of athletes to become Paralympic champion in two different sports.

After competing at Tokyo 2021, Jody became the first man in Paralympics GB history to win medals at seven different games, winning eight Gold, one Silver and three Bronze medals across swimming and cycling events.

He has also competed in multiple World Championships, winning 23 world titles.

Upon being announced as the latest contestant in Strictly’s twenty first series, he said to the BBC: “I’m excited to be welcomed into the Strictly family and throw myself head first into the world of ballroom dancing.

“It’s so far away from what I’m used to, but I’m looking forward to the challenge and pushing myself way out of my comfort zone, especially as I’m always last onto the dance floor.”
