Powys agriculture student named Aberystwyth University's best

Siwan Fflur Roberts from Llanwddyn, near Llanfyllin, picked up the award for the Best Student of Agriculture at the Institute of Biological, Environmental and Rural Sciences at Aberystwyth University at a ceremony at this year’s Royal Welsh Show.

Siwan has been studying at Aberystwyth University for the last three years and is set to graduate later this year with a first-class degree in agriculture.

Judges were full of praise for Siwan’s Work and said she had “excelled in a range of subjects during her degree including farm planning and advanced farm management, and crop and grassland production science and undertook a significant part of her studies through the medium of Welsh”.

As well as this she is also a keen member of Dyffryn Tanat YFC and has competed in a range of activities from public speaking to stock judging. 

Siwan was also praised for being active on her family’s farm during her studies – including playing a key role in the family farm diversifying with a new glamping venture.

Siwan was one of five outstanding agricultural students in Wales honoured at this year’s Royal Welsh Show .
