A non-profit group in Machynlleth is attempting to set up a new community resource in the town.

Machspace are running an initiative to establish a makerspace, an outlet for making and repairing things with equipment provided as a community resource.

The organisers hope that the proposed Machynlleth makerspace could facilitate woodworking equipment, 3D printers, sewing machines and other items that would help visitors with repairs and crafts.

In order to raise money to open a full-time space in Machynlleth, Machspace have launched a Crowdfunding campaign that will run until August 28.

Machspace director Cassian lodge said: “Our goal is to provide the space and equipment for people in and around Machynlleth to come in and work on projects together or solo, to save money and socialise.

“We're aiming to raise £6,000 to help us to open a full-time space in the middle of Machynlleth so that people in the community can join as members and use the equipment and materials.”

On Friday, July 7, the group are holding an Open Day and Crowdfunder Launch at the Bowling Club in Machynlleth.

Organisers say there will be plenty of space at the open day for visitors to work on projects, share skills and get a feel for what a makerspace within Machynlleth could be like.
