A COMEDY musical performed by a cast made up entirely of youngsters from a Powys theatre has raised almost £4,000 to help keep the venue’s doors open and lights on.

The Addams Family Young@Part, a youth adaption of the comedy musical, was performed by junior members of the Albert Hall’s Ah Players – with all of the cast were aged between 7 and 16. On top of that, 50 per cent of the backstage and production crew were also 21 or under.

Following an extremely successful audition session in February, the cast went through 10 weeks of rehearsals to learn their lines and the songs. This culminated in 3 extremely successful and busy shows over the weekend of May 19-21.

Director of the show, Ben Williams, said: “Seeing these young people grow in confidence over the 10 weeks was incredible.

OTHER NEWS:

“60 per cent of them had never been on stage before and to say they were fantastic is an understatement.”

“As with any show, there’s a huge amount of work that takes place behind the scenes and I’d like to thank everyone that has been involved from start to finish.

“Some said it couldn’t be done, others said it shouldn’t be done, but we did it, and these young people absolutely smashed it.

“We have a theme here at the Albert Hall. We have the ‘Ah Friends’, ‘Ah Accessible Cinema’ and ‘Ah Players’, but I think we have a new group on the horizon, ‘Ah Kids’ – so keep an eye out for future auditions.”

Thanks to the kind generosity of one of the main sponsors, Quackers Indoor Play Centre, the entire team were treated to an after show party at the play centre, much to the youngster’s delight.

The Albert Hall is also delighted to announce that they were able to complete a transfer of the set from this production to the Windmill Theatre School in Essex, a part time theatre training school. Both parties are delighted to have made the connection and are looking forward to creating new links together.

The Albert Hall, meanwhile, welcomes The Drifters to the stage on Sunday, June 18, featuring all their classic hits, including ‘Saturday Night at The Movies’ and ‘Under the Boardwalk’. Tickets are available online at https://thealberthall.co.uk or over the phone on 0300 102 4255.
