Two intrepid astronauts from Newtown will soon be embarking on a mission to boldly go where someone has gone before - Monaco.

Darren, 53, and Daniel Trigg, 24, will be going on a once in a lifetime journey across Europe in their trusty 1996 Daihatsu Hijet covering eight countries in seven days as part of the Monte Carlo Rally.

The duo, named Team Space-Y, will be performing experiments, sampling soil and navigating various language barriers in their quest to find out if the grass is really greener on the other side, while also raising money to help continue the ongoing mental health support provided by the Mind charity in mid and north Powys.

Darren said: “We’ve always had a keen sense of adventure, but we are really challenging ourselves here with everything so unfamiliar.

“With the increasing issues surrounding mental health support this seemed like the perfect opportunity to take action for our local community and for such a worthwhile cause that is close to all of our hearts.

“We’ve really enjoyed preparing for this fundraiser and can’t wait to fully immerse ourselves in the cultures and atmosphere of the countries we’ll be travelling through and share with everyone online”.

They have one more week to reach their £500 target for the charity before they depart on their epic expedition through Europe on Friday, May 26.
