WITH organisers preparing to release tickets to this year’s event next month, could there be anything better than recognition as one of the top 50 festivals to attend this year?

That’s what’s happened to the Presteigne Festival, which has been named in the prestigious The Times’ '50 Best Festivals of 2023'.

In an article promoting top-50, The Times states: “As we stagger out of another winter, it’s time to think ahead to beautiful evenings of alfresco music.

“Does any country in the world have the variety and richness of the British festival scene? Not that there aren’t masses of fabulous events around the globe.

OTHER NEWS:

“Our critics have picked the 50 best festivals to book for this year, from techno to classical, pop to jazz, city one-dayers to rural odysseys, local shindigs to international adventures, civilised reflection to bacchanalian mayhem.

“Whether you’re watching the Kanneh-Masons in Henley or Iggy Pop in inner-city London, here’s to a splendid musical summer.”

The event takes place this year from August 24-28 and tickets are going on sale in April. In a post on its Facebook Page, Presteigne Festival organisers said: “Fabulous to be included in The Times '50 Best Festivals of 2023' – alongside our Scottish friends East Neuk Festival, the Three Choirs Festival, Glyndebourne, Latitude Festival and the Glastonbury Festival – together with many others.

“Very special to be recognised with such titans of the festival sector.”

International Women’s Day was celebrated earlier this month and organisers say there will be an immensely strong list of female performers at the festival this year.

County Times:

“On International Women's Day announcing that the 2023 Presteigne Festival will welcome Roxanna Panufnik as composer-in-residence and will premiere new works from Roxanna, Claire Victoria Roberts, Sarah Jenkins, Charlotte Bray and Electra Perivolaris,” said organisers earlier in March.

“The programme also includes music by Cydonie Banting, Ninfea Cruttwell-Reade, Cheryl Frances-Hoad, Composer, Elizabeth Poston, Rhian Samuel, Hilary Tann, Judith Weir and Grace Williams – a fantastic year for women composers at Presteigne.”

The full programme is announced in April, with tickets going on sale to benefactors, patrons and friends on May 2 and the general public on May 23.
