A care home in Welshpool has officially opened a new sensory room much to the delight of the residents.

The room at Llys Hafren care home doubles as a hair salon and was opened by resident, Carol Lewis, who has lived at the home for four years.

Carol loves the colour scheme so much she has had her bedroom redecorated the same colour.

Those who live at the home will be able to enjoy calming aromas, warm-to-touch scented bags, calming music and also lighting equipment that can be altered to support any theme in these sessions. Residents will also enjoy hand and wrist massages.

Service manager Bea Wickstead said: “We were keen to introduce this to our home as we know sensory stimulation is known to support memory and calmness. The residents are thrilled with this new space and feel like they are having a real treat.”

Llys Hafren is operated by Shaw healthcare on behalf of Powys County Council and provides residential care for up to 40 people including those with dementia.
