A POWYS man has admitted strangling a woman and subjecting her to a campaign of assault over a number of weeks.

Rhys Burgess admitted a number of offences, committed against Natasha Morgan, when he appeared via videolink from HMP Cardiff at Merthyr Tydfil Crown Court today. He is due to be sentenced at the end of the month.

Burgess, 30, from Brecon, admitted two counts of assaulting Natasha Morgan between August 1 and 31 last year and August 6 and 22 this year.

He also admitted intentionally strangling Ms Morgan on September 2 this year and assaulting Terrence Morgan on the same date, causing him actual bodily harm. On the same date he also admits causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal, namely Roxy the dog, by picking her up and throwing the animal at a window, as well as damaging property.

Burgess damaged car wing mirrors, a mobile phone, fan, laptop, printer, desk, earphones, Perspex windows, internal doors and a lock mechanism, all belonging to Natasha Morgan. All offences took place in Brecon.

He denied two further charges, of causing Ms Morgan actual bodily harm, between August 1 and 31, 2021, and August 6 and 22, 2022.

Prosecutor Craig Jones told today’s hearing the pleas entered by Burgess were acceptable.

Judge Richard Twomlow said he was ordering a pre-sentence report to be carried out and he adjourned the case.

Burgess, of Coryton Close, Brecon, is due to be sentenced on October 28. He will remain in custody until that date.
