GUILTY pleas entered by a Powys woman – including burglary and possessing a knife in public – are set to be vacated following psychiatric reports which state she is not mentally fit.

Kate Louise Allen admitted four charges, including burglary, assault, criminal damage and possessing a bladed article in a public place, in April this year. However, Merthyr Tydfil Crown Court heard on Monday (October 3) that the 32-year-old is not medically fit to enter pleas or stand trial following the completion of two separate reports by experts.

The case against her is now set to be remitted back to the magistrates court so that the pleas can be formally vacated.

Allen, of Saline Close, Brecon, was not in court to hear her defence barrister Christopher Evans say: “Two psychiatric reports have been completed, by Dr Singh and Dr Davies.

“Both conclude that the defendant is not fit to plead or stand trial and that fits in with her presentation with me when the case was last listed on September 23.

“I am therefore making an application to vacate all pleas.”

Judge Richard Twomlow allowed the application but said the case would have to be sent back to the magistrates court in order to proceed.

Allen previously admitted breaking into another property on the same housing estate, located in the Llanfaes area of Brecon, on April 5, stealing a trinket box containing assorted jewellery, the value of which is unknown.

Allen admitted being in possession of a bladed article – said to be a butter knife – on April 18, also in Saline Close.

Two further charges date back to January 31 this year when Allen damaged a Volvo V50 belonging to Carole Price and assaulted Patricia Nevin.
