A new festival to "spread a bit of kindness" around Newtown is set to take place this month.

Taking place on Saturday, September 17, in the Town Hall Grounds, Newtown Fun Fest is designed to help Newtonians lead healthier and happier lives.

The festival – which runs from 11am-3pm - will include hog roast and ice-cream giveaways, a free raffle, an open mic session for local musicians and other musical performances, bouncy castles, opportunities to take part in sports and bushcraft activities as well as lots more. A number of organisations will also have stalls at the event.

The festival is being sponsored by Powys Together and the North Powys Wellbeing Programme and is being organised and supported by a range of different organisations and led by Jo Hughes of Powys Together.

There will be plenty going on at the Newtown Fun Fest in September.

Jo said: “We are seeing tremendous support from local businesses for the Newtown Fun Festival with lots of them donating items for our raffle and offering free giveaways on the day.

"The original idea for this event was to spread a bit of kindness around Newtown as families deal with the effects of the pandemic and the pressures of the current cost of living crisis. And that’s what we’ll be trying to do, with many free things as possible available on the day.”

Newtown East county councillor Joy Jones came up with the idea for the festival to promote kindness to the community.

“I’m really grateful that businesses and organisations are coming together and this should be a really exciting event, to show kindness to people in the community," she said.

"I hope everyone can come along and enjoy the event and make the most of the free food and gifts on the day.”
