SHOW and carnival season is in full swing and it’s the turn of Llanyre Show to make its grand return this weekend, with the village spectacle taking place on Saturday, August 6.

The jewel in the crown of the Radnorshire village, just outside Llandrindod Wells, is back after an absence because of the Covid-19 pandemic, and the show committee are looking forward to welcoming old friends and new to the village showground on August 6, with the event getting underway from 2pm.

There will be lots of classes in the marquee for both adults and children to take part in, plus children’s fancy dress, sports and football competitions.

In addition, there will be the usual side shows and stalls, including a static display of falconry, avian flu permitting, and the annual dog show.

Organisers have published the full schedule, which includes cookery events judged by Hilary Mackintosh.

Categories include age ranges for those under seven and those aged between eight and 12, with competitions covering jam tarts, scones and decorated biscuits getting the tastebuds tingling.

The Children's Craft section has categories for four and unders, five to seven-year-olds, and and eight to 12-year-olds, with sections such as decorated potato, decorated hat, miniature garden on a dinner plate, castle out of rubbish, create an animal or person out of two pom poms, and decorated stone.

There will also be a Children's Art section with the same categories, with categories for local personalities – whether it be a person, a dog, a cat or any other notable resident, local landscape, local building, flora and fauna.

Photography will be judged by Ernie Husson, covering the same categories.
