MOTORISTS travelling along a busy section of the A470 in Powys face delays over the next two weeks due to resurfacing.

The project being undertaken in and around Rhayader by the Welsh Government’s North and Mid Wales Trunk Road Agent begins this Saturday, March 5, and will last until Friday, March 18.

The proposed work involves essential carriageway resurfacing and repairs along the A470, including in Rhayader town centre itself as well as the Wyeside Caravan Park to Sew Bridge and Wyeview Terrace B4518 road from St Harmon junction to the caravan park entrance.

“This will result in a higher than usual level of noise and disruption at intervals and we take this

opportunity in apologising in advance for any inconvenience incurred,” said Traffic Wales in a statement.

“A closure of the A470 to all vehicles, except emergency vehicles and those connected with the

works, is required on Saturdays and Sundays and it will be implemented from 7am-7pm each day.”

The work will include a full closure of the A470 on South Street, Rhayader, from the Bryn Gwy junction to Caeherbert Lane junction from March 5-6 for resurfacing works.

From Wyeside Caravan Park to Sew Bridge, single traffic lane restriction controlled by temporary traffic signals and a convoy escort vehicle will be in force from March 7-11.

A full closure of the road from Wyeview Terrace and from the B4518 St Harmon Road junction to the

caravan park entrance will affect road users from March 12-13.

From the caravan park to Sew Bridge, there will again be single traffic lane restriction controlled by temporary traffic signals and a convoy escort vehicle in force from March 14-18.

The official diversion route for northbound traffic is via the southbound A470 to Llanelwedd, northbound to Newtown, Landrindod Wells and Crossgates, and westbound on the A489 to its junction with the A470 at Caersws, and southbound A470 to Rhayader: vice versa for southbound traffic.

High-sided vehicles over 14' should follow the above route but at Llandrindod proceed through Ddole Road Enterprise Park, take the westbound A4081 to Llanyre, leave the A4081 and travel northbound through Llanyre then follow Gravel Road and the eastbound A44 to join the A483 at Crossgates and continue as above: vice versa for southbound.

For all closures, there will be access for emergency vehicles only. However, due to the constrictive

nature of the sites, there will be delays while works apparatus and materials are moved to create a

passable route. Suitable alternative routes should be considered.

Information signs will be erected prior to the works, advising the travelling public of the closure dates and times.
