DYFED Powys Police responded to an incident at the weekend where an intoxicated man had climbed onto the roof of a former court building.

Police officers were called to the incident on Sunday afternoon (December 12) just after 3pm. The incident occurred in the Marine Terrace area of Aberystwyth.

A force spokesperson said: “At approximately 3.05pm this afternoon (Sunday, December 12) Dyfed Powys Police received reports about concern for a man who was on the roof of the old Magistrates Court in Marine Terrace, Aberystwyth, and he appeared intoxicated.

“Officers attended the scene immediately, along with fire and rescue service personnel, and a cordon was placed on the road and pavement. Specialist negotiators were also at the scene and engaged with the man to try and expedite a safe outcome due to the risk posed to him.

“Thankfully, at about 4.25pm, the man was brought down and was then safe and well with the emergency services.

“He will now receive the support he requires in the aftermath of this incident. Thanks to members of the public for their patience and co-operation in the area while we dealt with this situation.”
