A FORMER schoolteacher described as a “high risk” sex offender will be sentenced for a string of offences next month.

Christopher Flavin was due to appear at Merthyr Tydfil Crown Court on Wednesday, October 27, for sentencing in relation to two separate matters, but his hearing was put back to November after he failed to attend.

Flavin, 69, was seen on the grounds of Crickhowell High School on June 18 this year and was arrested after being recognised by a Dyfed Powys Police officer. As part of a current order, Flavin is prohibited from being on a school’s property, or near a school. He was found to be living in a caravan at a campsite in Crickhowell, near to the high school.

He is also due to be sentenced after being caught in possession of child pornography after going to print pictures at a Hereford shop. He previously admitted charges of making 56 category C and five B indecent images of children and possessing prohibited images of a child between June 29 last year and January 25 this year.

Police had been called by the manager at the Hereford Timpsons shop, who had noticed pictures of young boys when helping Flavin use a self-service photo printer at the shop. Flavin was traced using his numberplate and police visited his home, where they found and seized two SD cards and a laptop containing pictures of naked young boys.

Flavin previously admitted all charges as well as breaching a sexual harm prevention order.

Currently on remand at HMP Parc, Flavin’s absence was accepted by the court and he will now appear in Merthyr on November 11 for sentencing.
