A POWYS man who was caught speeding on a motorway and then tried to avoid punishment by failing to provide his identity has received a hefty fine.
Mark Addison was ordered to pay more than £800 by magistrates in West Yorkshire earlier this month after being caught speeding at 90 miles per hour on the M1 near Wakefield. The offence happened as long ago as September 16, 2019, but the south Powys driver was only convicted at Bradford and Keighley Magistrates Court on October 5 this year.
Addison, of Bron y Crug, Brecon, was charged with failing to give information relating to the identification of the driver and speeding, but the latter charge was withdrawn by magistrates at the hearing. Instead, the case against Addison, 54, was proved in his absence.
The offence took place between junctions 39 and 42 just after 2pm on the day in question; his Vauxhall Insignia was caught travelling at 90mph by speed camera.
He was fined £660 and ordered to pay £85 costs and a £66 surcharge, making a total of £811, while six points were put on his licence.
