POLICE investigating the rape of a Powys woman have arrested a man in connection with the incident.

Dyfed Powys Police said the man has since been released under investigation. The incident occurred in Crickhowell in the early hours of Tuesday, 27 July, where the woman said she was approached by three men and raped near the town’s primary school.

“Officers investigating an allegation of rape in Crickhowell in the early hours of Tuesday, 27 July, have arrested a man,” Dyfed Powys Police said in a brief statement.

“He has since been released under investigation.”

Police have been appealing for witnesses following the allegation. The terrifying assault is said to have taken place near Crickhowell Primary School at around 4am, with the woman raped by one of three men who approached her, all of whom were said to be wearing black facemasks.

The woman was walking along the A40 on Brecon Road, Crickhowell, when she was approached by three men, one of whom took hold of her and subsequently raped her. The man who is believed to have carried out the assault is described as tall, was wearing a baseball cap, a black face mask, black Adidas trainers that were shiny on the side and who was possibly in his late teens or early twenties. There is no description available for the other two men, other than they were also wearing black face masks. Anyone who saw any men matching this description in the area between 3.45am and 4.30am on Tuesday morning is asked to contact police.
