A BOY suffered a fractured arm after he was attacked by a German shepherd.

The youth suffered puncture wounds after the dog bit him in Churchstoke on November 27 last year. After the initial bite the dog was said to have held onto the boy’s arm and shaken him for 30 seconds before letting go. It led to him being taken to hospital and his injuries required an operation.

The “traumatic” incident happened weeks after a previous attack by the same dog, which occurred on November 11, also in Churchstoke, and was said to have caused minor injuries.

Steven Michael Price, of Orchard Close, Churchstoke, admitted two offences of being in charge of a dog that was dangerously out of control when he appeared at Welshpool Magistrates Court on Tuesday, July 27.

Prosecutor Helen Tench said: “The youth was playing with a friend at 6.30pm on the evening in question.

“The defendant went towards his van, his child opened the van door, and the dog jumped out and ran over to the boy and bit him on the arm, causing puncture wounds.

“The dog then shook him for about 30 seconds; this caused a fracture to his arm.

“When his mother later came home she took him to hospital in Shrewsbury and then to hospital in Telford, where he required an operation to repair his broken arm.

“It subsequently emerged this was the second time the boy had been bitten by the same dog, the first incident occurring on November 11.

“The dog remains in police custody.”

Steven Langton, acting for 31-year-old Price, made no representations.

Chair of the bench, Rebecca Klug, said: “We agree that this matter should be sent to the crown court.”

Magistrates adjourned the case and Price will be sentenced at Mold Crown Court on August 19.
